What?

March 26, 2009 - Leave a Response

Okay, so we closed on Monday and got the keys. Upon which, we promptly went to our house that we OWN and ran around like school kids. Jesus is so very good to us!

Our grand plan was originally to paint the main room(s). The floor plan is pretty open and the previous owners had the hall/foyer/living/dining/back hallway all painted in a rich camelback color. Too dark for my taste, but once we saw how big the area was truly without the furniture, we knew that there was no way we’d get that whole space done and paint the bedroom, office and West Virginia room (yes, a bedroom painted a very rich gold and dark blue). We’re leaving that space for now and I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to lighten that whole space up. I’m hoping that some white trim and light flowy curtains will bring in the light. We’ll see. Our attention then set on painting our master bedroom, office and at least priming the WV room. Once again the colors were super dark in the master bedroom (forest green) and so we headed out to get some primer and a softer, brighter pale yellow. We wound up having to prime the bedroom three times to rid it of the green. But now, it’s as pretty as can be and super bright and makes it feel like our bedroom doesn’t have a ceiling – super airy. We also got around to the office which was a very light blue. We only brightened that up a bit with another shade of blue. Time got the best of us and we never got around to the WV room. We’ll just close the door to that area of the house until we get settled in and decide what in the world to do with it anyway.

Tomorrow is the official moving day and I am oh so ready. I took plenty of pictures of the house before we did anything and I will be sure to post some before and after photos. And I can’t wait to start on some minor things around the house!

Box Hunting.

As we prepare for the big move, it is time for box hunting. I’m not even going to lie, I’m excited about hunting down free boxes and then beginning to pack. I’m an odd one. I think its just the thought of organizing and labeling things that makes me excited.

Snow!

Winter Storm '09

So it snowed in SC. I had to take advantage of the pretty and take some photos. The whole set is here.

Paint.

March 1, 2009 - Leave a Response

In anticipation of our future home, there are a few rooms that I would like to redress with a new coat of paint. I want to brighten up the space to make it feel as open as possible. The previous owners had great style and we will be keeping a few of their colors. Other rooms will be getting the overhaul with fresh paint.

Although we’re not closing until the 23rd, our local hardware store had a sale this past Saturday. Anything you could stuff into the brown bag became 20% off. Done. I knew we were going to need painting supplies. So, I made a list of needs (spackling compound, putty knife, brushes, rollers, paint trays, liners, tape and drop cloths) and headed out on a very rainy day to procure a deal. I saved around $18 and now we’re ready to tackle the painting! We just have to decide on colors…

We did it!

This is it! This is our new home! We are so excited and knew from the moment that we stepped into the house that it was home. We close on March 23rd. There’s a lot of painting to be done on the inside, but it has all of the things of our dream home. Adam even has a man cave over the garage. More pictures and I’m sure lots of before and afters to come.

Getting PreApproved

February 10, 2009 - Leave a Response

So, here we go. We are waiting on our pre-approval for a home loan before we begin touring homes for sale. We have an idea in mind of what our price range is. We definitely don’t want to kill ourselves and our savings by purchasing a home that is out of our price range just because the bank says we can afford it. We are going to live below our means so we can continue to pay ourselves by putting money into savings. We are blessed to say that we are debt free and want to continue to be wise with our investments.

Waiting is the hardest part.

$28 Date Night

January 29, 2009 - Leave a Response

Yes. You can have a fun date night that won’t break the bank and have a blast. Adam and I love date nights and we love to not spend a lot of money (even more so with me, I’m the saver between the two of us). So the other night we had date night. This was a special double date night with a couple who we consider to be some of our best friends. We chowed down at Wild Wing, which is by far our most frequented restaurant. The final bill including tip for the two of us was $28 (with wings to take home for tomorrow’s lunch). Then it’s time to break out the board games. Life and Fact or Crap were the choices for the evening. Who knew that Life was so much fun. I had forgotten how awesome it was.

So, there you go. Twenty-eight bucks for fun, laughter and investing in each other. Well worth it. Other times too, Adam and I will opt for window shopping through Target after dinner or another store just so we can hang out and talk. I value those times so much. He’s my best friend and I love sharing life with him.
